About the Sage Players

"Let's put on a show".  That's how it all started... who knew what an exciting journey was beginning!

Back in the summer of 2008, a group of eager, committed artists aged 55-80+ came together with the express purpose of performing plays with senior citizens as the cast and crew, and to "give back" to Spokane.  The group grew out of the Institute of Extended Learning's (IEL's) Senior Program Readers' Theater class to include members of the larger community.

Some of the members of this group had never been on stage before.  Some had never worked behind the scenes before.  Some had experience.  All were committed to the idea that "putting on a show" could be a fun, transforming experience for all involved: cast, crew, audience and community.

Out of this belief, the Sage Players was formed.  The group is entirely volunteer, giving all monies above costs back to the community.

Thier inaugural production was "Our Town", by Thornton Wilder.  Performances in November 2008 and March 2009 raised over $900 for the community.

The Sage Players continue learning, growing, evolving: adopting by-laws and creating a Board in 2009.

They picked the challenging "School for Scandal" as their second production (October 2009) because it is challenging!  THey wanted to give the opportunity for a new director, new crew and new actors from a wider age range to work with others who had some experience.  And they raised over $1000 for the community doing it!

This sense of generosity sums up who the Sage Players are and what they stand for.
